Multiple modalities allow us an approach to ensure that each client receives comprehensive, customized care to address both physical discomfort and functional challenges.
Myofunctional therapy helps train the tongue and surrounding muscles to function properly before the release. This can help improve the effectiveness of the release by ensuring that the muscles are strong, coordinated, and ready to support new movement patterns after the procedure.
People with a tongue tie often develop compensatory patterns such as mouth breathing, incorrect swallowing, or poor posture. Myofunctional therapy can help retrain these patterns so that after the release, the body can more easily adopt proper movement and breathing habits, supporting long-term success.
The therapy can help reduce tension in the tongue and jaw muscles that may have developed due to the restricted tongue function. This relaxation and increased mobility make the release procedure itself easier and may improve post-release recovery.
Myofunctional therapy can also address oral and facial posture, which plays a significant role in the success of a tongue tie release. Proper posture can aid in better tongue placement, chewing, and swallowing, which might be compromised due to the tongue tie.
Post-release, myofunctional therapy can help ensure that the new range of motion is maintained and supported, preventing the tongue from reverting back to its restricted movement patterns.
Myofunctional therapy involves exercises that help strengthen and retrain the muscles of the mouth, tongue, and face, and it can support the success of the tongue tie release in several ways:

A comprehensive orofacial myofunctional therapy evaluation assesses the function of the muscles involved in oral and facial movements, including the tongue, lips, and jaw. The evaluation focuses on identifying issues related to swallowing, breathing, speech, and posture that may contribute to conditions like mouth breathing, misalignment, or speech difficulties. Through a series of assessments and observations, we will develop a personalized plan to improve muscle function, enhance oral health, and support overall well-being. The consultation fee is dependent on age of the client.

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on healing technique that focuses on the craniosacral system—consisting of the membranes and fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. By applying light pressure, this therapy helps release tension, improve fluid flow, and promote relaxation throughout the body. It’s effective for reducing stress, alleviating pain, and enhancing overall well-being, offering a deep sense of calm and balance. The client remains fully clothed during CFT sessions. This is a service available for infants and beyond.
Bodywork (like myofascial release, craniosacral fascial therapy, or chiropractic care) can address any muscular tension or imbalances that may have developed due to the restrictions caused by the tongue tie. This can help improve overall body alignment and mobility, which may make the healing process after the release smoother.
Release Compensatory Patterns: Over time, a tongue tie may lead to compensatory behaviors (such as jaw tension, mouth breathing, or altered posture). These patterns can affect other parts of the body, such as the neck, shoulders, or spine. Bodywork helps to release these compensations, allowing the body to function more optimally once the tongue tie is released.
Increase Blood Flow and Circulation: Bodywork can stimulate blood flow, which supports healing and prepares tissues for the release. It helps promote better circulation to areas that might be restricted, making the tissue more receptive to the release procedure.
Bodywork can also help to calm the nervous system and reduce overall tension. Since the release of a tongue tie can be emotionally and physically intense, having a more balanced and relaxed nervous system can help with the recovery process and improve outcomes.
Optimize Jaw and Oral Function: Some forms of bodywork, such as myofunctional therapy or specific jaw alignment techniques, can help ensure the jaw and surrounding muscles are ready for the tongue tie release. This can improve the function of the mouth, tongue, and jaw post-procedure.
Bodywork before a tongue tie release can be beneficial for several reasons, especially when it comes to preparing the body for the changes that will occur after the procedure. Here's why it can help:

Hot Synergy Stone therapy is a treatment that combines the healing benefits of heat with the therapeutic properties of stones, typically using basalt or other stones with heat retention qualities. The stones are heated and strategically placed on the body to target specific areas of tension or pain. The warmth from the stones helps relax muscles, improve circulation, and promote deep relaxation. This therapy enhances the effectiveness of massage, providing a soothing and therapeutic experience that encourages healing, reduces muscle stiffness, and relieves stress. This can be added to any massage service.
Cost of therapy can vary based on individual therapists/location. Taylored Myo Therapy does have a consultation fee of $100-160 that is determined by age. Sessions are generally charged per visit where the client and therapist determine the number of prescribed session to reach individual goals. Each session ranges from $90-250 determined by therapist. Most myofunctional therapy programs range from $1400 to $3000. Additional fees may be accrued by other specialist, additional body work, or appliances if referral is necessary.

A tongue tie (also known as ankyloglossia) is a condition where the band of tissue (frenulum) under the tongue is shorter, tighter, or thicker than normal, restricting the tongue's movement. This can affect a person’s ability to move their tongue freely, potentially leading to difficulty with breastfeeding (in infants), speech, eating, and oral hygiene.
An oral restriction is a broader term that may refer to any restriction in the mouth that limits movement, such as a tongue tie, lip tie (when the upper lip is tightly attached to the gums restricting function), or other issues related to the frenulum, which can affect feeding, speech, and oral development. In both cases, these conditions can sometimes be corrected through simple procedures like a frenotomy or frenuloplasty with a functional release provider.
A tongue thrust is an abnormal swallowing pattern where the tongue pushes forward against the teeth or out of the mouth, instead of resting on the roof of the mouth behind the teeth during functional movements. This can lead to dental issues like an open bite, speech misarticulation, and jaw discomfort. It is often seen caused by habits such as mouth breathing, thumb sucking, or oral restrictions.
Mouth breathing can negatively affect your health by passing the natural filtering, humidifying, and warming functions of the nose. This can lead to a variety of issues, including:
Dry mouth: Increasing the risk of cavities, gum inflammation and disease, and bad breath.
Reduced oxygen intake: Less efficient breathing and oxygen exchange.
Dental problems: Can contribute to misaligned teeth, jaw discomfort, and narrow jaws.
Sleep distrubances: Increases the likelihood of sleep disordered breathing, such as, snoring and sleep apnea.
Poor posture: Often linked to poor body posture and misalignment.
Increased stress: Can activate the body's "fight or flight" response, raising stress levels.
Nasal breathing is more effective for overall respiratory health and promotes relaxation.
Myofunctional therapy is not just for kids! It addresses a wide range of issues that can affect adults as well, such as tongue tie, mouth breathing, snoring, sleep apnea, and dental problems. It helps improve muscle function, posture, and breathing patterns, which can lead to better overall health, enhanced facial aesthetics, and relief from issues like jaw pain or poor sleep. Adults can benefit from myofunctional therapy to correct long-standing habits and support recovery from orthodontic treatment or surgery.
Every patient has their own individual set of goals and we customize treatment to successfully reach those. Overall, myofunctional therapy aims to:
Establish nasal breathing as primary funciton
Promote lip seal and normalize teeth freeway space
Promote a proper, palatal tongue rest position
Promote an optimal swallowing pattern
Correct excessive dysfunctional habits
Bodywork before a tongue tie release is beneficial because it helps relax and release tension in the muscles around the mouth, jaw, and neck, which may have become tight due to compensations from the restricted tongue movement. This preparation can improve flexibility, enhance circulation, reduce stress, and promote better outcomes by making the tissues more receptive to healing and post-release therapy
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) is a type of therapeutic treatment that focuses on improving the function and coordination of the muscles in the face, mouth, and jaw. It involves exercises and techniques to help correct improper patterns of muscle use, which can contribute to a variety of issues like tongue thrusting, mouth breathing, poor posture, and misalignment of teeth and jaws. (AOMT)
OMT is typically used to address problems with:
• Swallowing: Correcting abnormal swallowing patterns, such as tongue thrusting, where the tongue pushes against the teeth instead of the roof of the mouth during swallowing.
• Breathing: Encouraging nasal breathing over mouth breathing, which can help improve oral and respiratory health.
• Speech: Helping individuals develop proper tongue placement during speaking to avoid speech disorders like lisps.
• Jaw and facial posture: Teaching proper tongue posture (resting on the roof of the mouth) to promote better jaw alignment and reduce strain on facial muscles.
OMT is conducted by a trained myofunctional therapist. The therapy usually involves a series of customized exercises to retrain the muscles of the face and mouth. It is especially effective for children and adults who have unresolved oral habits or facial muscle imbalances that impact their overall health, dental development, or speech.
Some of the common conditions that may benefit from OMT include:
• Open bite (when the upper and lower teeth do not touch)
• Tongue thrusting
• Mouth breathing
• Speech delays or articulation issues
• Sleep apnea (non central nervous system apnea)
The therapy is non-invasive and is often used in conjunction with other treatments, such as orthodontics, to promote long-term improvements in oral and facial health
